Max's diary - March/April 2009
Friday 13 - Monday 16 March 2009
We've been able to spend long weekends with mum and dad lately and have lots more walks and play times. Dad has been taking me out on my own for the late night walk. George for some strange reason won't come with us but it means I've got dad all to myself.
Saturday Dad stood on Georges paw. I didn't mean to be bad but George seemed in pain so I cocked my leg up on dads foot. Dad wasn't pleased but Mum was bent double laughing so it can't be all that bad.
We also went to out aunty and nephew's house, then for a walk nearby. We met their neighbour's dog too while we were out. I even got to go in the loft to look for mice! But I couldn't find any, even though I could smell something had been there.
Sunday we saw loads of dogs. The 2 cavaliers, the choccy lab and the shih tzo round the corner. He did the same to mum that I did to dad so she named it little pizz tzo! We also met Benson the schnauzer, he was 12 years old, a 17 year old terrier cross and a 20 year old border collie.

Friday 27 – Sunday 29 March 2009
Friday mum and dad took us for a very long walk in the morning and we had a really good time together. That was until I got into trouble for chasing the duck George had found. Mum gave me a right ear bashing and I felt really sad, especially as she put me on my lead. We got to walk up an old 'muck stack' where you can see across town. That is as long as the grass is short like today. Walked along a path along the railway track, through town, I think we covered everywhere.
In the afternoon she took us to Newmillerdam and we had a great run round because there weren’t many dogs. We met a rescue dog called Tiny but he was enormous, mum asked if they were having a joke. Mum bought an icecream and it took ages for her to finish it, we did get a taste though.
I wanted to run in the woods and eventually mum said we could. Mum got angry with me because I went for a run and didn’t come back when she said. Mum was still shouting me when I creapt back and stood at the side of her. She looked down and I looked back saying what are we looking for mum. Then I realised it was me. She wasn't amused. :-( But it was all so exciting, doesn’t she realise? Anyway she made me go back on my lead while George was allowed to run without his and he got to play with a lady lab. She wasn’t interested in him though. ;–)
Saturday morning I woke up and jumped into bed with mum and dad. I slipped in between them and laid my head on mums face. It feels so comforting! Then George jumped up at the other side and laid his face on mums face too. I could just work out mum mumbling to dad, ‘I can’t breath, look at these two’. When we got up, mum and dad took us in the fields for a run, I like it when we can all go together. We saw the two westies that greet us at their fence afterwards. Then we saw Jasper the schnauzer, he’s very quiet but friendly. I tried to top dog him. Mum said Jasper must be very placid because I don’t normally do that. Don’t mums show you up? We all went out together again later, what a good day.
Sunday we went in the fields again. I could smell squirrels and when I was stood at the bottom of a tree, a sneaky one tried to pass me. I ran as fast as the squirrel but the crafty devil ran up another tree. Mum shouted me back, spoilsport. Then we saw the vicious golden retrievers. I saw them up ahead but mum called me and put me on my lead, then she called George. Luckily the man did the same but we didn’t settle until we got past. We had a romp with Benji the springer, he’s quite good fun. He's not as rough as some dogs we meet.
Later mum took us to the reservoir but it started to get quite busy. Then mum told us to turn off the path and into the field and then onto an extended walk. George said he was going to show me the way the way but I just followed my nose. I could smell all the rabbits and squirrels and just kept following all the scents. I think George thought I’d been there before and was a bit jealous.

Highlights of the weekend
We got to play with several dogs in the fields on both days.
They were all friendly, especially the cavalier who I rolled over on the ground.
We ran in the fields and woods without our leads most of the time.
We went to meet dad at the football ground and see lots of people.
