A good walk is of course the highlight of a doggy day. Lots to sniff, dogs to meet, and a sense of traveling along with the humans on a shared mission.
If you love a good walk yourself, then read on!
These pleasures of a single walk can be magnified greatly on a walking holiday. From a weekend to a fortnight or more, each day brings new experiences and landscapes. It's possible to base yourself in one place and make daily forays out and back, or you can try a linear walk where each night you stay in a new village.
UK Exploratory is a small company in the UK that specialises in organising self-guided walking holidays. By self-guided we mean that we make all the arrangements for you and then you enjoy the walk under your own steam.
A particularly satisfying part of our work is in planning dog-friendly holidays. Dogs are welcome on all of our trips. We offer several routes in the UK such as the Coast to Coast, West Highland Way and Pennine Way footpaths and routes of our own devising in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
As walkers know, some paths are easier than others, and this applies equally to dogs. Stiles and rocky steps can be tricky for some dogs, particularly those with shorter legs or with less confidence in their agility. Each of our routes is different and we advise our enquirers and clients about likely challenges.
We book your dog-friendly accommodation each night, whether in a friendly B&B, an inn or a small hotel. Your dog sleeps with you in your room and is never put in a kennel or yard. (We suggest our doggy clients bring a mat to sleep on, plenty of towels to get clean, and a supply of their usual food.) We give you detailed route cards and good maps so that you can follow the route, plus plenty of local information. We can also take your luggage from stop to stop, to reduce weight to carry, and this is particularly useful for the dog's kit.
