A couple of year ago on a tour of Norfolk we discovered a very dog friendly place, Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden.

The 131 acres of beautiful ancient woodland, water gardens and a private broad is situated at South Walsham in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. Many ancient oaks and beech trees, including the fabulous 950 year-old King Oak, line the three miles of woodland walks which meander through the wonderful gardens. 15 little rustic bridges cross the waterways leading down to the broad.

Whatever the season of the year Fairhaven has a superb display with Spring bringing the ever popular daffodils, wild primroses, wood anemones, bluebells, rhododendrons and azeleas. Massed wid flowers bring colourful butterflies and dragonflies to the gardens in summer.

While the magificent autumn colours and fungi in late October and early November are followed by the sunny frosty mornings, snowdrops and colourful berries of winter.

Facilities at Fairhaven include the Kingfisher Tearoom which serves morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas; a Gift Shop with a range of gifts, greeting cards and books; and a Plant Centre which stocks a comprehensive range of unusual ferns, trees, shrubs, conifers and heathers together with Woodland products from the garden.

Boat trips, on the Edwardian style launch, run every day from April to the end of October.

Most of the garden, which is open daily all year (closed Christmas Day!), is accessible to visitors in wheelchairs.

Many events are held throughout the year including concerts, walks, children's activities and garden parties -and dogs are alowed at many of these events (it should, however, be noted that the Halloween events may include fireworks and may not, therefore, be suitable for dogs!).
Please see the Fairhaven
website for full details.

Please remember to clean up after your dog and dispose of the resulting package in a responsible manner
(At the time of writing the entrance fee also included a 'poo bag' - what a good idea!)
